North Carolina law requires sex offenders who have been convicted of certain offenses to register with their county sheriff. The Hoke County Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Registration Division is a specialized unit responsible for collecting and maintaining all information and court documents from offenders living in Hoke County. All information collected is then entered into the state maintained registry database. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) takes certain information submitted by the Hoke County Sheriff's Office Registration Division, making it available to the public via the Sex Offender Registry website.

It is the responsibility of the Hoke County Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Registration Division to conduct investigations and quickly apprehend offenders who violate the registration laws. Under North Carolina General Statute 14-208.11, an offender who is required to register is guilty of a Class F felony if they:
Fail to register.
Fail to notify the last registering sheriff of a change of address.
Fail to return a verification notice.
Forge or submit under false pretenses the information or verification notices required.
Offenders are prohibited from going onto prohibited locations such as parks, day care centers, schools, etc.

Any law enforcement officer who is aware of a violation shall immediately arrest the person or seek an order for the offender's arrest.
